چکیده

Background and Objectives: Pollution of the environment has become one of the very serious problems in the world. Factors contributing to these problems are both natural causes and man created activities. As livestock production intensifies, air, water and soil pollution becomes a problem. Utilization of feedstuffs especially by young pigs is influenced by the presence of anti-nutritional factors and fiber. An ideal thermal treatment procedure should sufficiently inactivate anti-nutritional factors and increase the bioavailability of nutrients, especially the essential amino acids. Micronizing or infra-red processing has been developed commercially for the heat treatment of bulk feeds to improve their nutritional worth. The long term goal of this proposal was to establish infra-red processing as a viable technology for increasing the value of a variety of pulses and cereals as they would become more attractive to both domestic and export markets for human and livestock use. The study was divided into two parts.

Cereal type and heat processing of the cereal affect nutrient digestibility and dynamics of serum insulin and ghrelin in weanling pigs.

The effects of feeding corn or rice, either raw or heat processed (HP), on apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) and apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of nutrients and on insulin and ghrelin concentrations in the serum were studied in young pigs. Pigs were weaned at approximately 23 ± 3 d of age and weighed 7.4 ± 1.2 kg. Each of the 4 treatments was replicated 9 times, and the experimental...

Comparison of standardized ileal amino acid digestibilities in protein supplements and cereal grains for weaned pigs.

Standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of AA in protein ingredients and grains was determined in weaned piglets (5 kg initial BW) using the difference method. Animals were fitted with a simple ileal T-cannula on day 24 or 25 of age. A synthetic diet based on corn (Zea mays) starch and casein was either supplemented with an extruded soybean (Glycine max) meal (ESM), rice (Oryza sativa) protein c...

Extrusion and expansion of cereal grains promotes variable energy yields in pigs, broiler chickens and laying hens

Maximising digestible energy (DE) yield from cereals is fundamental to optimising efficiency in pig and poultry production systems. Given the potential interaction between grain structure and composition and DE (or AME) yields in monogastrics, consideration must be given to cost–effective interventions that may improve available energy supply from grains. Processing options such as extrusion an...

Digestible indispensable amino acid score and digestible amino acids in eight cereal grains.

To determine values for the digestible indispensable amino acid score (DIAAS), it is recommended that ileal amino acid (AA) digestibility values obtained in growing pigs are used to characterise protein quality in different foods. Therefore, an experiment was conducted to determine the standardised ileal digestibility (SID) of AA in eight cereal grains (yellow dent maize, Nutridense maize, dehu...

Effect of rice and other cereal grains on growth performance, pig removal, and antibiotic treatment of weaned pigs under commercial conditions.

Three experiments were conducted to evaluate effects of rice and other cereal grains on growth performance and health of weanling pigs. Pigs (1,008 in Exp. 1 and 3 and 1,004 in Exp. 2; 21 d old) with an initial BW of 5.8 ± 1.0 kg were used. Pigs in each experiment were divided into 3 BW blocks (heavy, medium, or light) in each of 4 rooms, resulting in 12 blocks per experiment. Each pen within a...
